I called yesterday as soon as I got home to check on my I800 status....You have to go thru a couple prompts before they transfer you to the right office, and then to the correct officer (I've wondered what that means....like police officer? What other kind of officers are there? Anyway...I digress. Surprising, huh?).
Ring....ring...ring....transfer to voicemail.
Bummer!!
So I literally set my oven timer so I wouldn't call immediately. Thirty minutes seems reasonable, right?
I waited seventeen. I have never been the patient type. LOL
Press 1, transfer, transfer.....Is OFFICER Brown available? Ring....ring....and she answers! Yay! I almost couldn't talk I was so nervous! (I'm not sure why. Maybe it was the officer thing. LOL) (Or maybe it was that she has complete control of if I get to bring my baby HOME to live with us in the United States....It's one or the other....)
Yes, Officer Brown, this is Kim McCray and I am trying to complete the paperwork for an international adoption and was calling to check the status of my I800.
I nervously told her the 842-number-long tracking number that held the information for our specific case.....
Long dramatic pause.
Hold please.
Longer dramatic pause.
Papers shuffling.....
At this point I've literally stopped breathing....what if we aren't approved? what if it delays our travels because we filled something out wrong? or checked the wrong box? or used the wrong color ink? or spelled my mother's sister-in-law's neighbor's maiden name wrong? or they need the LOA that my stupid dog ate?....or......or......or.......
Mrs McCray? Your case has been approved......Actually, it was approved YESTERDAY!
Yesterday?!?!
WooHoo!!!! Yee-haw! Woot Woot! (Insert any other phrase that exhibits joy and excitement here!)
So right here is where you expect me to say I thanked the nice lady...errr...Officer....and got off the phone....WRONG!
Tears. Lotsa tears. What my drama girl would call "tears of joy." Poor poor officer not only has to look at papers all day long to try to find something wrong with them....AND answer the phone and listen to tracking numbers that are excessively long and made up of numbers (which makes them annoying in my book)....she had to deal with ME!!!
If you see someone named Officer Brown today, tell her I said THANK YOU!
You might also want to buy her some chocolate...she had a rough day yesterday! LOL
But I had a GREAT ONE!
ONE. STEP. CLOSER!
Oh that is wonderful!!! And sums it up perfectly! :)
